Orchids-How To Keep Them Alive
What makes orchid grow apart from the normal houseplants grown at home and why they appears to be a challenge to a green thumb? My mother was always able to take care of plants, both indoors and out, so no surprise if, after being given her first orchid as a gift, she got ‘hooked’ on how to take care of them. I have ‘brown fingers no’ to the green, so I’m amazed there are people who can make houseplants alive for more than one season. After speaking with my mother and my own little research here are some tips for orchid care:
1. Considering the natural conditions
When you buy, make sure your orchid plants need to create the conditions in their natural surroundings. There are various varieties, some hardier than others so look for a label to check.
2. Careful Watering
Watering them about every 4-7 days seems sufficient, but that does not depend on the season. To check whether the plant needs water, push the wooden stick or pencil into the medium, if you come out darker, there’s enough there. Orchids can require different amounts of water at different times of the year, so keep checking!
3. Feeding
Most orchids benefit from a specialist orchid fertilizer-fed as a weak solution and applied once a week. To do this, use only half the amount stated on the package. Type of fertilizer will depend on what your orchid to grow in, so it is wise to check first.
4. Reporting.
Sooner or later, unfortunately, the orchid will be reporting requirement. Remove the old mix from the pot, being careful not to damage the roots. Wash the roots and trim off any hollow or mushy, because they were considered dead. Place the plants into new pots, orchids seem to like the root-bound, so it should just about between the root and tip the pot “1. Add a new mix / medium to the pot, pressing the parties to make sure it settles properly Tap gently. To complete the plant but not too much use of force or the roots may break Use a stick to support the plant in the pot so safely. If you grow plants in sphagnum moss, make sure it is wet before wrapping it round the roots and reporting, so you do not have to worry about air pockets. After reporting plant should not be watered during the 3-5 days to allow it to recover.
5. After it flowers.
Check whether your orchid flowers only once from the flower spike or will flower repeatedly from the same spike. After the plants finish flowering spikes should be removed at the base with a sharp instrument to reduce damage to the plant itself. If you’re unsure, do not cut it!
6. Caring for it.
An important part of orchid care you are looking for various fungi or parasites. Separate each plant has a problem, check it out, finding the medicine and start treating as soon as possible.
