Locking Doors Still Best Bet Against Burglaries – Not so long ago, people did not feel the need to lock theirs doors or windows. But times have changed, and so does the need to use the key to protection. According to the National Crime Prevention Council, most individuals do not have the correct security key. Only half of Americans have been dead-bolt lock on all entrances to their homes and nearly one in five had none at all. National Crime Prevention Council recommends checking and updating the old lock on all doors and windows and replaces them with people who provide protection from a key duplicated without your knowledge.

In addition, advise you to ensure you have the bolt lock is long enough so the door can not open unload. Installation quality is the key first line of defense against theft of the house because they can protect you against physical attacks. Other steps can be taken to improve your security, too. Here are some tips from the National Crime Prevention Council.

* Use your key. Even the best lock can not protect you if you do not use it.

* Do some yard work. Trim hedges and shrubs so burglars can not hide out.

* Know your neighbors. Neighbors who look out for one another is the best, and cheapest, defense against environmental crimes.

* Secure your leisure. Leave your spare key with a trusted neighbor. Do not hide in the property. Thieves have more experience looking for keys than you do to hide them.

* Let there be light. Make sure all outside entrances – front, rear and side – to have good lighting so that thieves can not easily hide.

* Stop mail and paper delivery. A pile of newspapers in the driveway is a clear sign to a thief that you’re away from home.
