Japanese Maples
I’ve been known to get angry about how people should try to incorporate more native plants in their garden. However, I would never prevent a person from the Japanese maple are included in his garden, on the contrary, I really would recommend it.
History and colors
Japanese image in full maple leaf on the picture brings me peace of mind oriental, still water and moss-covered mountains. This elegant plant is a different part of the culture and consciousness of the original Japanese companies through the use, in both horticulture and art. In the year 1800 more than 200 varieties of this plant are recorded in Japanese, this figure grew over the next 100 years, only to be knocked back the numbers again to 200 by the vortex of the Second World War. Japanese maple is also known as Acer palmatum or Acer japonicum is a small bodied compared to other trees. Altitude ranges from 1 meter to 7 meters, so many gardeners their class as a large shrub than a small tree. Words can not do justice to the color displayed by the Japanese maple, but must be seen to be believed. Owner Acer will experience growth in a fiery new spring, summer and autumn foliage leaf fierier calm even cold.
Palmate or Dissectum
There is two main groups of Japanese maple. The “Palmate” group has a fairly upright growth habit with branches and leaves layered consisting of 5-9 lobes. The “Dissectum” group rightly lives up to its name with its lobed leaves dissected, feathered and lace-like. I feel that the maples in the “Dissectum” group look particularly well if planted close by an informal water feature due mainly to their weeping, cascading form.
How to grow dwarf acer
Japanese maples do well when planted in an east-facing aspect, which allows access to the morning sun and protection from midday sun. Shelter from wind and damp, but free draining soil cultivation requirements are also important. A 7cm layer of leather applied to the base of the plant fertilizer will help prevent plant drying. To enable good growth you should eat a small piece of your orientation, apply liquid fertilizer in mid spring and again in mid summer at half strength. As shallow rooted Acers are, they are ideal for planting among other shrubs without checking for growth. For a delightful oriental scene, try planting Acer palmatum with rhododendrons, azalea, bamboo and birch.
Specimens to grow container
Two beautiful specimen maples whose leaves are opening out within garden centers now are “Orange Dream” and “Beni-Maiko”. “Orange Dream” is worth mentioning due to its fresh yellow/green lobed leaves. The young growing tips have an orange glow, providing an attractive contrast. “Beni-Maiko” on the other hand produces lovely pink foliage in spring turning to dark red in summer. Both Acers grow about 1 meter, the size is ideal for container growing. If you choose to grow a Japanese maple within a container, try to choose the one that was sympathetic to the heritage of plants, oriental style glass pan would be ideal.
