Concrete Finishes (II)
All you need is the sealant, repair caulk, concrete and asphalt cleaner, sand, a scrub brush, wire brush, and a caulking gun. The first step is to use the wire brush to clean the dirt, organic debris, and any loose concrete chips or flaking away from the crack. Next, with the concrete and asphalt cleaner, make sure any heavy dirt deposits and greased are cleaned. Now, you want to open the tip of the tube of sealant so it matches the same size as the crack. This will ensure when you push it in that it fits perfectly and looks neat.
Slide the tube into the caulking gun. Then, squirt the sealant into the hole, being careful to keep it in the hole and filling just to the top. If the crack is deep, then you should first fill the hole about one-quarter of the way with the sand, add one-quarter layer of sealant, another one-quarter layer of sand, and then top the hole with the sealant. If the crack were on a wall in a vertical position, you would clean the crack as you did for the horizontal crack but then fill the crack at an angle, again using the caulking gun to fill the hole. Be sure you do this on a warm day when no rain or freezing weather is in the forecast. After the crack has been filled, if the sealant has flowed over the top, once dry, you can use fine sandpaper to smooth it off to make it even. If your concrete is colored, you will dyes that can be added and colored sealant to match the concrete so the repaired area does not show.
