Compost Pile
Compost, made from decomposed grass clippings, leaves, twigs, and branches, a mixture of dark and fragile organic material. Learn how composting works. Even a newbie to composting can make good quality compost. This can be compared to cooking as art or part science. The following 7 factors will help you master the art of composting.
1. Material
After any time that ever lived will decompose naturally. But, not all organic goods should be composted for home. To prepare compost, organic matter, microorganisms, air, water, and a small amount of nitrogen needed. This item is safe to compost at home:
* Grass clippings
* Clipping of hedges
* Vegetable scraps
* Leaves
* Pot of land that has grown old
* Branch
* Coffee filter with coffee powder
* Tea bags
* Weeds are not yet gone to seed
* Plant stalks
This item is not safe to compost at home:
* Weeds which have gone to seed
* Dead animals
* Pet feces
* Bread and grains
* Meat
* Grease
* Cooking oil
* Food oily
* Esophageal plant disease
2. What to Do to Make It Work
There are small forms of plant and animal life that breaks down organic material. life are called microorganisms. Of the total minutes of garden soil or manure came many microorganisms. Nitrogen, air, and water will provide a favorable environment for microorganisms to make compost. Air circulation and water will keep the healthy microorganisms and work. Nitrogen feeds the small organisms. You may need to add a small amount of nitrogen to the pile. Putting on too much nitrogen can kill microbes and too much water causes insufficient air in the pile. You just can not add too much air.
3. Beneficial Microorganisms
Bacteria are the most effective compost makers in your compost pile. They were the first to break down plant tissue, and then came to fungi and protozoa to assist that process. The arthropodes, like centipedes, beetles, millipedes and worms, bring in the finishing touches to complete the composting.
4. Smaller is Better
Such materials will break down more quickly if the microorganisms have more surface area for dining. Chopping your garden a material with joy, shredder or lawn mower will help them decompose faster.
5. The Pile Size
Activities of millions of microorganisms generate heat in the compost pile but the minimum size 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet required for the pile, composting heat quickly. An even bigger pile to prevent air supply required in a pile for microorganisms.
6. Moisture and Aeration
If you can imagine wet sponge squeezed by the number of air pockets, then this would be an ideal environment for microorganisms in the pile to function at their best. Pay attention while your compost pile, with the amount of rain or drought which you may have. The water in the drought and may change the stack in a lot of rainy days. Both extremes can disrupt the balance of the stack. The use of pitchforks will come in handy at this time.
7. Temperature and Time
Keep your pile between 110F and 160F and beneficial bacteria will love it. Not too cold or too hot. Temperatures will rise for a few days if you keep a good ratio of carbon and nitrogen, maintaining a lot of surface area in a large volume of material, and maintain adequate moisture and aeration.
-The Importance of Compost-
1. The compost has a nutrient, but it’s not a complete fertilizer.
2. Compost provides nutrients in the soil until the plants need to use it.
3. It loosens and aerates clay
4. Retain water in sandy soil.
-Using Compost in-
1. A soil amendment, mix 2 to 5 inches of compost into gardens each year before planting.
2. Mixed pot, add one part compost to two parts potting soil.
3. Creating their own pots using a mixture of equal parts of compost and sand or perlite.
4. A mulch, prodcast 2 to 4 inches of compost around annual flowers and vegetables, and up to 5 inches around trees and shrubs.
5. A top dressing, a mixture of finely sifted compost with sand and sprinkle evenly over the grass.
The last thing I would suggest once you have mastered the art of composting is to look very serious to make your own aerated compost tea. This elixir will give unbelievable results.
