Being a grass, as opposed to timber, gives bamboo the edge as the product not only of buildings (a strong and flexible at the same time), but also as a sustainable resource: wood takes approximately 15-20 years to reach maturity, whereas the non-crops dangerous than bamboo requires only three to five years. Bamboo has traditionally preferred material in most of Asia, and is only recently that the benefits and environmental properties have begun to be utilized more fully in the west.
