In recent years, there have been many instances of reported robberies and burglaries in the residents of people even when they are present in the house. This is because even though a lot of us take multiple measures to lock all the doors of the house when we are leaving our homes, we tend to become lackadaisical about it when we are present in the house. Although most robberies take place when a house is completely devoid of inhabitants, an attempted theft cannot be ruled out even if you or your family members are present. Such a theft is more dangerous as it can lead to great harm and injury to the persons who are residing in the house. It can also result in a death if proper measures are not taken as professional thieves will stop at nothing to make their attempt a success.

It thus becomes very important to equip your home with all possible security measures and to follow a few safety tips yourself:

1.The first step should be the installation of proper locking systems on not only the doors but the windows as well. People forget that large bay windows are easy to break and pick open and outsiders can gain entry to the house through them. You should make sure that all openings are perfectly locked especially during night time.
2.If you have children, they should be instructed not to open the doors of the house to anyone before consulting you. Thieves can take advantage of the naiveté and the innocent, trusting nature of young kids.
3.A peep hole should be present on the main door so that you can peer through it to ascertain the identity of the person who is asking to come in before you let the door open. This can avoid lots of mishaps later on.
4.You should also install a chain latch on the door that allows the door to open only a few inches at first. This way if you sense that something is wrong, it is not too late to lock the door again.
5.There are many kinds of alarm systems that are available in the market today. These devices start to create a loud noise whenever anyone steps into the area that is covered by the alarm. This way the police can be alerted and rush to your rescue.
6.You should pay attention to safety issues at the time of construction of your house too. The materials used in the construction of doors and windows should be solid and powerful that are impossible to break using heavy forces against them. If you are installing glass on windows or other frames, the glass should be of the unbreakable and bullet proof kind. The doors should be constructed out of pure, sturdy wood with metallic frames to make a break-in impossible.
7.Apart from doors and windows, there are many other small openings in the house that we fail to pay attention to. If you have a chimney or a fireplace at home, the roof can be a great way of gaining entry into your house for a potential thief. The roof should thus also be covered by an alarm system or equipped with security cameras.
